2002 Toyota Sequoia Broken Rear Hatch Latch Repair.
The cheap plastic handle on the rear door broke. The plastic handle is what broke. The Toyota dealers will want approximately $400 to repair this. The part cost $30. You can buy an aftermarket door handle made of METAL for $30 on eBay.
The latch works on a simple cable design, but the handle is a bitch to remove. Hands and arms get cut up as you reach inside the rear hatch to get at the last hardware to remove.
Clean and lube (BALLITSOL Cleaner LUBER) the latch cables and mechanisms to when the new part is installed, the door will close like new. I lube the support pistons, hinges, and use a cable luber to lube the hatch cable.
I hope this helps someone else. If you are a do-it-yourself, you can do this repair yourself. Give your self a few hours.
